Frequent Asked Questions

Over the years, I had the privilege of interacting with many clients from portraits all the way up to weddings. Many questions have been asked by clients who never hired a photographer, or have had previous experiences with other photographers. Here is some frequently asked questions of me throughout my years as a photographer.

How do you describe your style?

I find my style drawn to shadows and moody, which seems to have developed to my signature style. I do have versatile options depending on the style the client is seeking. I would say it’s constantly evolving because I continue to become more refined. As creative artist, I am always learning and growing.

how LONG have you been photographing?

Since 1996! I have always enjoyed art, from sketching and painting to photography. In 1996 I began photographing my high school senior year. One day my parents bought me my first digital camera (when they first hit the market). My parents told me to be the family photographer and I fell in love with digital photography since. I went off and got my Associate Degree in Computer Science which turn out to be great for my photography.

Do you work with assistant(s)?

Yes, my wife who is also very good with photography. She helps me with “off camera flash” which is a an art in itself. She is also a great third eye when it comes to attention to details.

How do we book you & how do I know if you are available?

I created a website calender (Click here). Calendar will show my available days and times. All you need to do is follow the links instructions and claim your day. You can always message me if you want me to pencil you in.

Do you charge to hold the date?

Once you book with me and you have claimed your date, the date is yours. Unless inclement weather, unforeseen events or emergencies; I will always keep you informed and request the same. I have had clients request to put in a down payment for self security reasons or to make payments.

When should we book you?

I have had clients book a year from the date, and book the day of. Use my website calender (Click here) to lock in your date, but don’t delay in the possibility someone else claims.

What are the payment options?

Cash payment is accepted but I also take Check, PayPal, Venmo and Cash App

Do you negotiate?

No, the pricing I offer is firm. If a client is seeking a budget photographer, they are out there and there is nothing wrong with that.

What we “give” you, we give with our hearts, and we work hard to give you our best, so we can capture your best.

How do you deliver?

NO more CD’s or Memory Sticks (USB of images), experience prove those give out due to lack of use. I deliver photos using an online gallery that gives clients a custom URL where you can view, share & download all your images (among other things!). Online gallery is the amazing, new-and-improved (and much more beautiful).

Some of your package collections come with prints which I personally deliver to you. Ensure to allow 5-10 business days for delivery, once the prints are ordered.

What gear do you use?

I am a canon shooter, my go-to lens is my 70-200 Canon which is SHARP and gives amazing depth of field.

Do you recommend a location?

I tell my clients to consider a location that has meaning. Pick a spot where there is a history behind it, doesn’t matter where because beauty in everything. When your photos are delivered you will have a story as a background.

That is my recommendation, but if not, I like Woodlawn lake (free), Elmendorf park (free), Landa Library (free outside). There are many others but also know some places like Japanese Tea Garden and McKay charge. Those places I recommend you call in advance.

How do I rent your photobooth service?

“Smiley” is our newest photo booth addition to the family! You can find more information here: https://jnrodriguez.com/photobooth

Do you photoshop?

Yes and No, the photoshopping I do is very small changes as needed. I will do some dodge/burning, remove distractions such has unseen objects (example: trash in background). The packages I offer, that include prints, will be detailed with edits as I feel need before printing. I can edit additional photos requested for $20 each image.

I don’t change backgrounds, add to the photos, bulk up men or thin out women. When these are done then it is no longer portraits, its now considered digital art.

I dont photograph well & I’m super awkward – can you help me?

Yes, of course! I understand that clients may not have experience being photographed and I’m here to help. Through my easy shooting style and natural posing, I make sure that you look natural and lovely in your photos. Some people take a little longer to warm up, and in those cases I make sure that you feel comfortable and relaxed while we are shooting. I promise, I make it painless and fun, and it won’t be nearly as bad as you think.
